IMPORTANT NOTICE – Nebula Certificate Verification and Support Experiences

Dear Validators!

⚠️ We ask that you verify and update your NEBULA certificates in a timely manner! ⚠️

Based on the feedback, we did not find a single case where developer intervention was necessary or where the CA certificate had actually failed to renew! Without exception, the issues that arose could be resolved on the user side with simple steps.

The questions we received can be categorized into five main groups:

The correct expiration date was displayed, but they wanted us to confirm it

If the expiration date listed for the Mosaic Chain Mainnet CA certificate in the Nebula certificates section of the Validator Dashboard is August 28, 2027, then the CA certificate has been renewed correctly, and no further action is required.

“Failed to fetch” appears in the “Nebula certificates” section

In this case, the first step is to update the Mosaic packages installed on the node using the “Update” button on the Validator Dashboard. If the update via the Dashboard does not work, you can perform it manually while logged in to the validator machine:

sudo /opt/mosaic/update-mosaic.sh

You can also verify the CA certificate directly on the validator machine:

sudo nebula-cert print -path /etc/nebula/ca.crt

If the output of the command shows that the current Mosaic Chain Mainnet CA certificate is valid until 2027-08-28, then the certificate has been renewed.

Installed Mosaic packages are not visible, or the update fails on the Dashboard

This is not directly related to the Nebula certificate renewal, but it has been mentioned in several emails. If the installed packages do not appear correctly on the Dashboard, or if the update fails when using the Update button, you must run the following command on the validator machine to update:

sudo /opt/mosaic/update-mosaic.sh

It is important that the latest Mosaic packages be installed on the validator machine.

The “Nebula certificates” menu item does not appear at all

In this case, an older version of the frontend is typically loaded in the browser. In this situation, press the following key combination:

Ctrl + Shift + R

This will reload the page (hard reload), after which the “Nebula certificates” option should appear.

Inquiries Requesting General Information

Several people have simply asked what they need to check and how they can tell if everything is in order. Here is a brief guide:

•    Open the Validator Dashboard Settings → Nebula certificates section;

•    Under “CA certificate,” look for the “Mosaic Chain Mainnet” certificate marked as “Current”;

•    If the expiration date is August 28, 2027, then the CA renewal was successful;

•    If the Dashboard does not display this information, check directly on the validator machine using the “nebula-cert” command mentioned above;

Our capacity is limited: we cannot guarantee timely technical assistance for those who leave the verification until the last few days or hours. Updates after the specified deadline are, of course, still possible, but in such cases, validators will need to complete the process on their own by running the commands provided at a later time.
